The enigmatic perfume of Serge Lutens

Indeed, this strange name is more commonly used in military jargon than in the world of perfumery. However, Serge Lutens decided to make a perfume of it. It is a mixed and oriental fragrance with a very contrasting flavor and a particularly creative recipe.

The enigmatic perfume of Serge Lutens

Baptême du Feu is a perfume whose name is accompanied by a quote from Serge Lutens. Indeed, such is the custom within his house of creation. However, don't expect to see it any clearer. He always manages to cast doubt on his compositions… Baptism by Fire is therefore described as follows: “My emotion is fluid. Like a wax flowing in a mold, it strengthens what appeals to me, like here, this gingerbread heart ”. You will understand, this is an abstract perfume of which Serge Lutens nevertheless kindly provided us with an ingredient: gingerbread. And for good reason, this fragrance has precisely the ambition to draw us into the world of childhood. It is about fair, shooting range ... Yes but there you go, everything has been revisited by the dark eye of the creator. So, this cheerful aspect is more in reality akin to a game of massacre, to the smell of gunshots and dust. Serge Lutens even further accentuates the provocation by comparing the sugar contained therein to "the sweetest drug in the nasal cavity". Baptism of Fire is a deceptively childish scent that quickly evolves into an almost unhealthy ambiguity. Serge Lutens thus goes further by qualifying his olfactory note as "a taste of a fear of gingerbread rediscovered". The mysterious recipe for Baptism by Fire

In addition, beyond this description, to say the least strange, it is customary in the house of Serge Lutens not to reveal the entirety of its recipe. We do know, however, that the Baptism of Fire fragrance contains a warm and charismatic flavor of gingerbread. Likewise, for more freshness, it is accompanied by citrus fruits, and more particularly orange. Osmanthus, meanwhile, brings here its sweetness close to that of jasmine. This little spring flower therefore calms the power of this perfume. What's more, the whole is further enriched with powdery notes for more elegance. However, more sensual flavors complete this composition. Baptism by Fire contains in particular castoreum. Finally, it ends with a very structured scent of woody notes.
